Homemade with shredded cheese—it was new to me when I moved here, but I love it!! Also it’s good cold, or you can fix it like a grilled cheese sandwich!
I love some of these ideas! When I was little, my dad would always mince up leftover ham with pickle, mix it with mayo and use it for sandwiches. Probably something he picked up from his mom! When I'd go on vacation with my sister and her family, she'd make two options: the ham one, and then a minced turkey and black olive mixed with mayo. Super easy to pull out of the cooler and make into a fresh sandwich.
What a lovely memory! It definitely sounds like a sandwich from an earlier era. A minced turkey sandwich with black olives sounds super interesting. I'd totally try that! I really liked another wartime recipe for mixing together cream cheese and chopped green olives. YUM.
Love this! I’d have to go with the good ol’ BLT. I remember many kids bringing peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to school for lunch. Whatever type of sandwich kids had though, it was always white Wonder Bread. The drink was often a little carton of “orange drink”.
Yes, Wonder bread! As a kid I always thought that was for "rich kids". My mom only ever gave us whole wheat bread. 😅 I'm not mad about it though. I much prefer wheat bread now. PB&J is so classic. Yum! Was the orange drink SunnyD maybe? Or just a random orange-colored juice?
Cucumber sandwiches with cream cheese are yummy. Also, believe it or not, cream cheese and jelly sandwiches. My mom made those sometimes when we were kids and I loved them. :-)
PS: Are you going to be recording future episodes of your podcast? I really enjoy listening.
I love cream cheese and jelly! I give that to my kids on bagels. Cucumber and cream cheese is delicious too. Great suggestions!
Yes, I'm in the process of researching my next episode about Spam. It's finals time for my semester though, so things are a bit hectic. After that's over I'll be able to dedicate more time to the episode!
Pimento cheese sandwiches are still a summer staple for me. Very Southern!
I was going to comment pimento cheese on cinnamon raisin bread—sounds weird but is soooo good!!
I would not have paired the two, but I'd give it a try!
Ooh! That sounds delicious! Does it come in a jar premade or do you have to make the mix yourself?
Either, but I prefer homemade.
