It feels more doable to have more flexible food goals. I use the MyPlate app and that’s the way it sets my goals up so I have little food wins every day
I agree that flexible food goals are the best chance for realistic success! There are so many great tools out there. I haven't tried the MyPlate app, but I've been meaning to check it out!
If you're not able to access that post (my older episodes are archived), there's this recipe from the book What Do We Eat Now?
Cream of Spinach Soup
2 c. chopped, cooked spinach
1 onion, sliced
1 c. milk or spinach water
3 Tbsp. butter or margarine
3 Tbsp. flour
1 1/2 tsp. salt
3 c. milk
Dash of nutmeg
Heat spinach and onion with milk or spinach water. Prepare cream sauce, melt butter, blend in flour and seasoning. Add milk slowly. Cook, stirring constantly, until thickened and smooth. Add spinach and milk, or force spinach through a strainer and add to the cream sauce. Season well. This make about five cups of soup.
Yes! The portion sizes are so different. They definitely offer more variety to one meal, so I think that makes up for it and the meals are more filling and satisfying.

I would love to try the cream of spinach soup, I suspect I’ll be the only one in my family to try it though
I posted a Spinach and Cheese Casserole that's very close to a cream soup in Episode 15. It was really good! https://victorykitchenpodcast.substack.com/p/episode-15-keeping-trim-for-uncle-samhtml

I need to bookmark this for fall!
Yesss! Cream soups are so cozy!
This pretty clearly shows how much food we eat now vs how little they ate back then.
