Great question! I know veggies were emphasized, obviously, but I've also read articles saying that flowers were important for morale! I can totally agree with that! 💐🎍🌼🌺🌹🌸
I’m trying those “bag” things this year because GOPHERS, to be followed by raised beds *with gopher net under*. I have, and still will, planted complimentary flowers in with the veg & things. I tag where they are so I remember what’s going on 😆😆🤭
Of course, my poison garden is in FRONT and my food garden is TO THE SIDE. They have a lot of separation 😆😆😆😆😆😆😆 let’s not have the foxgloves in with the lettuce.
On the blog page you linked to, you mentioned chicken lettuce, which you couldn’t find seeds for. It’s not common, but varieties called “chicken lettuce” are still around. Here’s a seed company that sells one: https://www.rhshumway.com/product/S02549/234 and here’s a picture and description from a guy who’s grown one: http://www.timssquarefootgarden.com/plantlist.htm Given the picture you found, I wonder if it’s a romaine-type lettuce that bolts? Regardless, happy planting, and great article!
Oh wonderful! Thank you for the links. I have done so many searches for the chicken lettuce and even buy seeds from RH Shumway. How weird that it never came up! Haha! I'm very excited now. Hopefully I can get some seeds this year!
🥹 gorgeous
Thanks for sharing this delightful piece!
You are very welcome!
These garden plans are such amazing resources! Here's a potentially goofball question - did cut flower gardens fall by the wayside during WWII?

As a wanna be gardner, I find these diagrams inspiring. This just might be the year I get it done!
