I love trying vintage recipes on a theme. I’ve tried various ones in years past: Bread, Maple, Banana, Chinese, Autumn, etc. It’s a great idea to deep dive into a specific theme because our modern use of the same ingredients can be quite different, and I’ve learned a lot each time! Maple and Banana are definitely two of my favorites, but for Christmas, I thought it would be intriguing to dive into Peppermint. And, as I’ve come to find out, accessing peppermint extract in wartime was actually a bit of a challenge!

I’ll get into all of that later, but let’s get to the recipe ideas. I scrounged through cookbooks and newspapers (hopefully none of the recipes are cursed this time…lol) to dig up a nice variety of peppermint-themed recipes.
They come in two varieties: plain peppermint and chocolate peppermint. Not really a surprise though, right? There’s only so much you can do with peppermint in baking and candy making. I’m hoping to make 4 recipes, but I’d like to make a couple of each variety. So, I’ll be dividing them into those groups. The poll widget only lets me add up to five things, so choose one from each poll. Then, my paid subscribers will help me narrow things down even more. The voting is only open for 1 week, so don’t delay!
Happy polling!
Plain Peppermint
Chocolate Peppermint
The cells have a character limit, so I apologize for the abbreviations.
(#1 is a Chocolate Sour Cream Cake with Peppermint Icing. #3 is a Blanc Mange with Marshmallow Chocolate Peppermint Sauce. What a mouthful!)
(#2 is a Victory Layer Cake with Chocolate Peppermint Frosting. The Chocolate Peppermint Cookies recipe is from a Canadian newspaper!)
By now, your brain has probably made the word “peppermint” completely meaningless. Haha!
Thanks for your feedback and I can’t wait to get baking!
