WWII Ration Recipes: Wine Barbeque Sauce
A wartime picnic condiment for chicken, steaks or chops
This month I’ve been deep into research for my next episode all about alcohol rationing. In the middle of my hunt for resource material, I found this cute little wine recipe book published by The Wine Advisory Board. It advocates for Americans to buy California wines, which were more plentiful and easier to get during wartime as opposed to European imports. The booklet is full of various wine recipes including the one I’m sharing with you this month: Wine Barbeque Sauce.
Early 20th century barbeque sauce recipes are so fascinating. I’d love to do a test and compare a few.
I wanted to include this little blurb about serving wine in wartime, because it’s full of great tidbits! Nowadays you can get plastic wine glasses, but I love that they say it’s totally okay to serve the wine in paper cups or jelly glasses. (As reinforced in the art work. lol) No need to be fancy for an outdoor barbeque!
I’d love to hear what you think about this recipe or any others that I post!
*Remove* the garlic??
