I’m of the opinion that you can never have too many cookie recipes. This is one you’ll want to bookmark for whenever your autumn begins. (I’m mentally already there, let’s be honest. Haha!)
This month’s recipe for Louisiana Pinwheels comes from this super cool series of wartime cookbooks: The “Hook-Up” cookbooks! The books were designed to literally hang from two hooks in your kitchen so you can cook or bake without needing to mess with holding the pages down. (Or risk a fan blowing the pages around so you accidentally create a Frankenstein recipe like in The Million Dollar Duck. Hahaha! Anyone else understand this reference? Just me?
I’ve made a couple versions of pinwheel cookies: chocolate/vanilla and peppermint/vanilla. Both tasted awesome, but the secret is really in the cookie dough recipe and how pliable it is for rolling into a log. Not all recipes are created equal in this regard. It’s been hit or miss for me.
I’m looking forward to trying this version that uses molasses, cinnamon and cloves for its darker-colored dough. Add in some ginger, and I think it could be a winner!
Please let me know if you try this. Share pictures. Yum.
