This month, I wanted to try out one of the dozens of wartime Halloween recipes I have in my collection. So many recipes from wartime are titled with spooky names like “Goblin Gingerbread” or “Witch’s Cake” but they’re really just normal gingerbread or cake with a token decoration. The truly spooky recipe that caught my eye comes from the 1944 publication of The Alice Bradley Menu-Cook-Book by Alice Bradley.
