In which I plan too much
I'm looking ahead to summer and I have all kinds of ambitious plans. It's funny how it feels like each season seems to sneak up on me more quickly than the previous one!
My Spring semester has finished and with barely a breather the Summer semester has begun. With this comes an exciting opportunity of beginning my internship at a very cool museum. I am so grateful for this opportunity and look forward to a lot of research. I need to keep my work there confidential because it involves future exhibit plans, so I won't share too much about it, but I wanted you to at least know what I'm up to in case I get momentarily overwhelmed. 😅
Speaking of being overwhelmed, I have hopes and ideas for my garden, but all the rain we've been getting has the weeds happy as clams. 😠I did harvest my first ever crop of strawberries, so that is saying a lot! I've always struggled with strawberries. I tried an experiment of using them as a ground cover beneath my currant bushes which has worked pretty well!
My next podcast episode is also in the works and is all about luncheon meats (like SPAM). There's a lot out there about SPAM, naturally, so narrowing it down will be the hard part.
Experimenting with my 1948 Coleman Campstove!
I've had a particular vintage recipe series idea brewing in my mind for years where I experiment with camping recipes. I have camp cookbooks from the 1930s - 1950s and have been dying to try the recipes! Would you guys be interested in something like that?
And last but not least, I'm giving a community presentation at my local library about hunting, fishing, canning and freezing in wartime. I'm going to have to get creative in order to fit all those topics into 45 minutes, but I'm really excited!
If there are any rationing topics you're interested in seeing, please let me know!
I’d love to check out some vintage camping recipes! Probably close to the ones in my 1970s Girl Scout handbooks. I remember cooking our food, wrapped in heavy tin foil (yes, our hardy GS leaders called it that) on the coals of the campfire. And baking cakes in coffee cans!
