Today for Veterans Day, I wanted to say thank you and honor the military service of:
My dad, Tom — Air Force veteran
Father-in-law, Russ — Army veteran
And my step-dad, Mike — Navy veteran
My multiple friends who are currently serving in the military or are retired
Thank you!!!
I appreciate that our country celebrates Veteran’s Day and Memorial Day separately to honor their different, incredible sacrifices for our safety and freedom. If you’d like to support any veteran organizations consider the Disabled Veterans National Foundation or K9 Partners for Patriots. When things are less hectic in life, I’m hoping we can serve as a foster family for dogs training to be partners for veterans!
The Ultimate Veterans Day Cake
If you followed me since my Instagram days, chances are you’ve seen this cake before. I always think it’s worth reposting though because 1) it looks awesome and 2) it tastes amazing.
Back in 2022 I finally got the chance to recreate this cake and it was a lot of fun. It definitely put my subpar piping skills to the test, but I think it turned out okay! Obviously, the frosting was too soft for piping, but I’m fine with it. I don’t profess to be a super talented cake decorator. In fact, most of the time I can’t even be bothered. Haha!
I couldn’t find those paper star candle holders anywhere, so I looked up a tutorial on YouTube and learned to make them myself. It took a few trials to get the right size. I’m pretty proud of this cake and I was thrilled that it tasted so good.
I love that this article even shows you how to make the different insignia for the various branches of military. Super helpful! The Army Air Corps separated in 1947 after WWII to become the Airforce.
If you give this yummy “Chocolate Soldier Cake” a try let me know!
I remember when you made that cake - it's SO epic!!
What a great-looking cake. I think your re-creation of it looks amazing! I love chocolate cake, I should try this soon!
