Pecans are my favorite baking nut, but when you coat them in cinnamon-spiced sugar?? Oh my! It’s hard to stop eating them.
This 1943 recipe from the Good Housekeeping Cook Book for Cinnamon Nuts was something I knew I needed to try. They make great gifts and an awesome festive snack!
The recipe has 4 ingredients, and in my mind I was picturing something similar that they sell at Costco. Yeah… they didn’t turn out like that. Instead of a glaze like I was imagining, they developed a granulated “sugared” look—like the recipe says. lol I don’t know why I was so surprised.
I shared these with my family and some friends at a museum I volunteer at and they all agreed that these were super yummy and a tiny bit addictive. So, this recipe is a winner! The only thing I would change is upping the cinnamon. That’s easy to say in a day and age when cinnamon is fairly cheap. In wartime, cinnamon was scarce, so a lower amount in recipes makes more sense for that time.
Join me tomorrow for Day 7!
This looks so delicious! I laughed when I saw the suggestion that you could substitute raisins. That sounds REALLY sweet! (I bet raisins were more available than nuts!)
YUM! And so simple! I feel like having little bowls of candied nuts etc. during the holidays were very much a part of yesteryear's Christmas celebrations...or at least how I picture them. :)
I think we have matching pink dishes! With the cherry blossom pattern?
